DIY Rustic Candle Stands- Easy Decor Project Tutorial

DIY Rustic Candle Stands- Easy decor project with only one supply!

I can't believe how close and yet how far Thanksgiving and Christmas seem. When do you start decorating for Christmas? We usually start over the Thanksgiving weekend and one of my favorite places to decorate is my mantle. I don't go overboard, but even just some garland, candles and Christmas lights is so cozy. I made these rustic candle stands that are the perfect addition to a holiday mantle and are so easy to make!

The materials for this project are simple- just one 4x4 old cedar fence post. I wanted the wood to look weathered and aged so the older the wood, the better. I chose to even include some rusted out nail holes and cracks in the wood when I picked my cuts.

Next decide on and mark your stand heights. I eyeballed mine when I told Soren where to cut, but mine measure 4”, 7.5”, 5.5”, 5.5”, 4”. Mark and cut your wood at your marks.

I didn’t even sand them after cutting. The only extra step was to add a light dust of gold spray paint to some of the edges. The gold fancied them up a bit and pulled in the gold frame we have above our mantle- but it is really subtle.

Your last step is to arrange your stands with your candles. I didn’t want to go buy new candles so I just worked with the heights that I had. It was just trial and error until I found what worked best. I also even *spray-painted* my candles cream so that they all matched. No one can tell from a distance so it works.

As you can tell we still have our fall décor up, but that is what I love about these rustic little candle stands- they work year round! I’ll post a photo of them in our holiday mantle on FB once we officially decorate- I’d love to see yours too!
