What I Wore and Kindergarten Tips

We had back to school night last night, and my first little man officially starts kindergarten tomorrow. I asked him how he could possibly be so old - after all, he was just a little baby yesterday, I swear! He correctly answered that he has already had five birthdays, and you can't cancel birthdays. Despite my constant pleas that they stop having birthdays, he's right, and my favorite boys get a little older every day. I loved his teacher and I'm really so excited for him. He is so ready to be at school learning every day, and I know it will be a huge chance for him to grow and become.

Although I a little bit hate that school is starting, I'm so glad that we did summer school kindergarten back in June. I'm positive that Easton and I will both be so much more prepared tomorrow, and hopefully I won't be a crying mess. If you have kindergartners that start this year (and you work or stay at home), I thought I'd share a few things that I learned that helped us during our summer school test run.

1. It takes about two weeks after school starts to feel like school is the new normal. Until then, you will miss your little one and watch the clock until he or she gets home. If you have other little people at home, they will feel totally out of sorts as well.
2. Go visit the school as soon as you can. We went and ate lunch with Easton the second week he was in summer school, which was as early as they allowed. It helped me so much to see the kids in his class and see him in his new element. It also showed the teacher that I was involved and interested.
3. Plan a new at-home schedule. We didn't do this very well during summer school, but this fall I plan to. We need to make a new normal schedule at home that doesn't involve Easton. Kesler and Knox and I will have our weekly activities while Easton is at school, rather than waiting for him to be around. Ideas that I have so far are library day, planned play dates, a park day, and school time for us at home (possibly preschool co-op).
4. I also plan to volunteer at the school as much as I can. I want to get to know the kids in his class and his teacher. I know she'll have her hands full, so if I can help there once a week or so, then I plan to.
