A few weeks ago, I shared a post full of quirky things about me, and it was really fun to read all of your feedback! It's so fun to hear what makes people unique. And since that post I've had other random weird things pop into my head that I should have shared. So here's another post full of ten random things about me.
1. One of my superpowers is power napping. I can fall asleep for literally five or ten minutes and wake up again ready to go.
2. The way I fall asleep quickly is really weird too. I used to paint the insides of small apartments back when we lived in Seattle. It was a chilly, dark, boring job. Every time I need to fall asleep quickly, I think about painting those apartments and instead of painting them white, I imagine painting them black. Rolling the walls, up and down, never ending.
It works every time!
3. My posture is a huge concern to me. I used to have great posture, but years of nursing and pregnancy and hunching to look at a smartphone have ruined me. I'm super scared of having a hunchback in my later years of life. That being said, I don't do a whole lot about it.
4. My favorite kinds of songs are ones I can bob my head to. Soren teases me all the time for it, but I love songs with a good head-nod beat. Calvin Harris' new song "My Way" is a great example.
5. Ever since I think my second pregnancy, I've needed to use prescription strength deodorant. I can buy some strong stuff OTC now, but it's weird how my body has changed to demand that!
6. I color my own hair. It's partly because I'm really picky about how I like it, but also because it saves time. Getting your hair colored at the salon takes so much time, and I just don't have it. This weekend I went a little darker with an almost-all-over color.
7. In middle school I spent an entire summer trying to change my handwriting. I wanted something cooler, so I specifically chose how to write each letter and filled pages and pages with practice letters. However, I do not have the kind of handwriting that I ought to with that much practice!
8. I almost never wear socks. Even in boots where I could easily wear socks, like over-the-knee boots, I never wear them. Some part of it is laziness, time constraints, and lack of clean socks, and then I also hate how socks show in low ankle shoes.
9. I'm super allergic to poison ivy. Not that it puts me in the hospital or anything, but if I so much as breathe next to a poison ivy plant, it hops on my skin. I swear I have residual poison ivy in my blood because every once and a while, it will show up for no reason, kind of like how Soren gets cold sores.
10. I'd love to add some kind of give-back or do-good mission at Nickel & Suede someday. I'm not sure what that will look like, but one of the reasons we pray for the success of our business is that we want to use its success to do good.
And speaking of giving back, the clutch I've styled today is from Mercado Global. They have such beautiful patterned bags and clutches that I was immediately drawn to. Mercado Global is a company that works with talented artisan women in Guatemala to create beautiful handbags as well as provide them with an education and help them in breaking the cycle of poverty. I love companies that empower women (we strive to be one of those), so I wanted to share their great mission with you all. Especially since I know many of you enjoy spending your holiday money where it counts - with small businesses and businesses that do good!

Have a great start to your week, and do me a favor by showing MG some love!

  1. Re: your deodorant issue? Try Schmidt's deodorant (available on Amazon). I reviewed it on my blog and I love it! Chemical-free to boot!
