Boyfriend jeans and Designer Denim Recommendations

Hello! I'm excited for today's post as it's one of my favorite topics to write about in July! Designer denim! This might seem out of place for one of the hottest months of the year, but right now is one of the best times of the year to buy quality denim. I'm partnering with Nordstrom today to share my favorite pairs of high-end denim that are all on sale and part of the Anniversary Sale. Read on to hear about why I will never go back after making the switch to designer denim and what pairs I really recommend.

In the last five years I've made a switch from $20-$50 dollar denim to more expensive and investment denim. And it's been the best thing I ever did for my wardrobe. Before making the switch, I went through so many pairs of jeans that stretched out, faded and were ill-fitting. They felt terrible to wear and they never made me feel fabulous. I didn't know jeans could really be any different. But one year during the Anniversary Sale I decided to splurge and see what all the fuss was about. Why did so many people rave about Rag and Bone or AG? Well, I found out!
I wouldn't say that it's always true, but it's often true that you get what you pay for. I was used to paying as little as possible and getting very little in return. Even if I paid a little more I didn't feel like the fit or the wash or the longevity was better. But once I bought a pair of $150-$200 pair of jeans I saw a HUGE difference. They fit like a glove. It's hard to describe, but they hug in all the right places and it feels soo good to wear. The premium washes combined with the fit also really make the jeans look great. Soren noticed my Rag and Bone skinnies immediately when I first bought a pair and they are still his favorite pair of jeans that I own. They are the best dark skinny jean out there- I swear. I am also obsessed with their black skinny jeans. They don't fade (EVER) and they fit so well too! I highly recommend investing in a pair of black skinny jeans because they will last forever. Finally, my black jeans don't fade and look old after a few months.
I also love Rag and Bone's boyfriend jean because the wash and the fit are just amazing. I wear jeans so often that I really get a lot of use and enjoyment out of this type of investment item. Other brands that I love are AG, Paige, Mother and Frame. They all make a great pair of jeans- but it's a matter of trying a few out and seeing what work best for your body type. Some run small and others run a little big so I'm going to put all of my dressing room try-on pics for denim below + fit details. Some of them are not over $100, but I do think that spending over $100 gets you that next level fit.
This is really the time of year that I talk about investing in jeans because there are so many good pairs on sale. This is the time to get a pair of investment jeans or two on sale and they will last you all year and longer. Nordstrom always has so many great premium denim options and these are the kind of items that are still in stock in the sale! The Rag and Bone dark wash and black denim are two of my top selling items from this year's sale and I know why! With free shipping and returns I would recommend grabbing a few pairs to try and see what pair you really love. You can't really know until you get them on so treat yourself and try them now. You won't regret it!
Rag & Bone Cate Ankle Skinny Jeans (wearing size 25)
These are the Rag & Bone dark skinny jeans that I tell everyone to get every year. They are the best dark skinny jeans. Soren always notices when I'm wearing them! They make you feel like a million bucks every time you put them on. What jeans do you own that have ever done that?? They do fit a little big so you could size down. These will not stretch out or fade- seriously.
AG Ex-Boyfriend Relaxed Slim Jeans (wearing size 26)
These are my second favorite boyfriend jeans from the sale. THESE are my favorite but I had to order online to get my size. These are a favorite, casual comfy and stylish. They are supposed to be baggier but you may want to size down for a better fit in case they stretch out. Love the wash on these.
Levi's Ribcage Super High Waist Ankle Straight Leg Jeans (wearing size 27)
These jeans are super wide and would look better with a taller shoe. I normally wear a size 26 but since these don't have any stretch I went up a size. There is a distressing on the knee and they will define your waist. Can't beat the price, but your husband will hate them. :)
MOTHER The Hustler Two Step Fray High Waist Ankle Bootcut Jeans (wearing size 27)
I've actually never tried MOTHER jeans on before but once I did I immediately noticed how good and huggy they are. They fit a little small so I went with size 27. I love the step hem on these which are especially cool with heel. These might be my new favorite brand!
AG Prima Ankle Cigarette Jeans (wearing size 25)
This year's AG version of light colored denim has no distressting, just a crop right at the ankle. These are my favorite light wash skinny from the sale. They are very flattering on. Fit is tts.
AG Harper Slim Straight Leg Jeans (wearing size 26)
These AG jeans have the darker wash and are a lot longer. I had to cuff them because they were so long. I'm wearing my normal size and they look a little more girlfriend-y fit. Still very cute.
Paige Hoxton Ripped High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans (wearing size 25)
I love the wash and fit of these jeans. They didn't have a size 26 in store so I went with the 25 and they are surprisngly comfortable and I kept the smaller size. I've had other Paige jeans stretch out before so I'm hoping by sizing down I avoid that.
Madewell 10-Inch High Waist Skinny Jeans (wearing size 26)
These were my favorite pair of Madewell jeans I tried on. I love the exposed buttons on the high waist, very flattering. They fit tts and are a great length. I'm impressed with these ones!
Frame Le High Waist Flare Jeans (wearing size 27)
There are several pairs of flares in the sale this year and this pair ended up being my favorite. They are extremely stretchy and have a high rise skinny flare fit. I'm wearing a size bigger and they still fit surprisingly great. I ended up buying my true size. You do need to wear a heel with them but a heeled boot works just fine.
Paige Transcend - Hoxton Ripped High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans (wearing size 26)
I always love a pair of black ripped skinnies. These have a great stretch and fit tts. They may stretch out a big, Paige jeans often do, but they won't fade. They will stay this black forever.
Rag & Bone Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans (wearing size 27)
Rag and Bone is one of my faves every year. THESE are the best black jeans in the sale. They are pricey, but you gotta try them on to believe them. These are black skinnies that do fit a little small so you could size up. I wouldn't want to squeeze into a smaller size. These will not stretch out or fade.
AG The Prima Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans (wearing size 26)
These also fit really well. Love how easy the ankle is - it's not too skinny. These fit TTS and are another great black denim option to love. Fit is tts. I always try to stock up on black denim during the sale and I don't think you can go wrong with any of these 3 pairs.
Have you upgraded your denim yet? What brands are your favorite?
Thanks to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post. As always all styling and opinions are my own!

  1. I just bought my first pairs of Frame and Mother denim - oh my gosh, why did I wait so long?!? They fit like a glove. Will never go back to cheap jeans!
